Next to being a neurosurgeon, Michiel Verfaillie is also a contemporary composer/arranger of vocal music especially.  He was trained in music at the conservatory in Mechelen. For many years he’s been a singer in several quality ensembles and many scores have been published by Flanders predominant vocal music publisher Euprint. In 2011 he won the Fontys encouragement price for young composers in an international composition competition with ‘Deux petits poèmes’ (two little poems) and ‘Cecilia’. Quick thereafter, commissions followed for several choirs and publications with Euprint. In 2020 The Flemisch radio choir conducted by Bart van Reyn recorded his beautiful ‘Mon Dieu je rêve’ (My God I’m dreaming), which was the title track for their playlist Les flandriens, reassembling compositions from several Belgian composers. In 2021 his ‘The hidden rose’ (own lyrics) won third price in the World Choir Games for best performance of a piece written by a Belgian composer.
