Three love poems (SATB)

Info

Three love poems consists of three poems with a different atmosphere who were thus set to music in different ways.
Thou should ever part from me is a short poem I wrote in ‘Old’ English to preserve the style of the two other poems in this bundle. The piece gradually develops by repetition of the main theme and by the growing complexity of the arrangement to give ever increasing power to the words. Although the initial emotion might seem sadness, the message behind the words is positive and the atmosphere of the arrangement certainly develops to a positive intimacy.
I arise from dreams of thee is a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley (ƚ 8-7-1822) who is considered to be one of the greatest romantic English poets. I wrote the piece for the ensemble Cantico from Buggenhout (Belgium) because of their inspiring enthusiasm for my music. It’s an intimate poem and so an intimate piece with after all a high in the middle to come back to the initial intimacy of the beginning. The piece demands this dynamic change when performed.
Come, o come by T. Campion (ƚ 1-3-1620) is a sigh for a lover far away whom the poet hopes to see again soon. Seeing the expressed desire in the words, the piece is a little more up tempo than the other two pieces of this bundle, without it becoming a hasty song (it is still romance). A simple arrangement of a simple yet beautiful poem.
